“A draw is fine, so John Paul and Oliver both have a chance for the coveted title,” said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.

GM Mark Paragua, on the other hand, defeated Zeng Chongsheng of China to hike his score to 6 points and create a 5-way tie for 3rd place together with GMs Andrei Deviatkin and Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia, International Masters Das Debashis and Rathnakaran K of India.

Another Filipino entry GM Richard Bitoon split the point with Prince Bajaj of India to raise his total to 4.5 points. It is good enough for a share of 46th to 85th place.

The India chess campaign is part of the Philippine team’s preparation for this year's 38th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey.
