MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Grandmasters (GM) Oliver Barbosa and John Paul Gomez agreed to a draw in the 7th round of the 10th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament 2012 in New Delhi, India.
Barbosa and Gomez, both tallied 6.5 points to maintain their joint lead after 7 games of play.

“A draw is fine, so John Paul and Oliver both have a chance for the coveted title,” said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.
GM Mark Paragua, on the other hand, defeated Zeng Chongsheng of China to hike his score to 6 points and create a 5-way tie for 3rd place together with GMs Andrei Deviatkin and Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia, International Masters Das Debashis and Rathnakaran K of India.
Another Filipino entry GM Richard Bitoon split the point with Prince Bajaj of India to raise his total to 4.5 points. It is good enough for a share of 46th to 85th place.
The India chess campaign is part of the Philippine team’s preparation for this year's 38th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey.
