Bagyong Igme update August 19, 2012

In the 2nd latest weather bulletin of PAGASA issued at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, 19 August 2012, Bagyong "IGME" (TEMBIN) has intensified into a tropical storm and remained almost stationary for the past six hours.


At 4:00 pm today, Tropical Storm "IGME" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 315 km East Southeast of Aparri, Cagayan (17.6°N 124.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move north slowly.
Two areas, Isabela and Cagayan, are now placed in Signal No. 1 (45-60 kph winds).

The state weather bureau said Tropical Storm Igme is expected to be at 320 km East Southeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Monday afternoon, 400 km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Tuesday afternoon, and 300 km Northeast of Basco Batanes by Wednesday afternoon.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 - 10 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

Tropical Storm "IGME" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring light to moderate rains over rest of Northern Luzon ( particularly Benguet, Baguio, Pangasinan, La Union, IIocos region) Central and Southern Luzon especially the western section, the weather bureau added.

Residents living in Northern Luzon especially in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Eastern Seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to Tropical Storm "Igme" and the Southwest Monsoon.
