Beagle is top PH dog at canine show (Philippines)

MANILA, Philippines – She may not have won the top prizes but a beagle from the Philippines won the hearts of the crowd at the recently concluded dog show organized by the Philippine Canine Club, Inc. (PCCI).

Gabby, the beagle, was the top Philippine-bred winner at the show, walking away with the Best in Show (BIS) at the 41st Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) All-breed Championship Dog Show. She also placed third at the 464th PCCI All-breed Championship Dog Show.

“We make Gabby feel special, and it shows in her personality and showmanship,” said Vernon Araneta, professional handler and trainer. “We're overwhelmed. It's a very big thing for us to showcase what we have, especially when we have competitors from overseas.”

The beagle is owned by Bon Reyes, Mary Montelibano, and Donato Poblador.

“The beagle won because of its expression and correct size, but it was her temperament that gave her the edge because she was still lively even after a long day,” declared FCI-licensed judge Saija Juutilainen.

Hocus Pocus Wild Fantasy, a Yorkshire terrier from Thailand, was named the BIS winner of the 2012 FCI Asia and the Pacific Section Dog Show. As champion, he will be competing at the Eukanuba World Championship Dog Show later this year.

Rock This Town, a pekingese from Thailand, took second place, while Damascusroad Harry by the Sea, a pomeranian, placed third.

Organized by the PCCI, the event featured prime purebred dogs from the Philippines and around the globe. Events included agility trials, a grooming seminar and a “Meet the Breeds” exhibit.

Almost 500 foreign and local entries participated in the series of competitions, which included the country’s first flyball competition.

The judges and championship titles are all recognized by FCI member countries, as well as The American Kennel Club, The Canadian Kennel Club, and The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom.

Philippine local clothing brand, Bench, goes KPop with their latest international endorsers – Korean sensations Lee Donghae and Choi Siwon of Super Junior.  Bench has been bringing big stars to endorse their clothing line.  They have previously tapped singer Bruno Mars, Michael Trevino of The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars’ star Lucy Hale for Her Bench.

This was not the first time that Bench has tapped an Asian sensation. In 2003 Bench brought Taiwanese F4 Super Star Jerry Yan who became its model in Asia.

After the announcement was made, Donghae and Siwon became one of the trending topics in the Philippines on Twitter.  This goes to prove that tapping these celebrities could be a great move for Bench.
