A moderately strong earthquake measured at magnitude 5.2 has hit Masbate, Philippines at 7:06 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reports.
Director Renato Solidum says the magnitude 5.2 quake was also felt in Irosin and Cabid-an, Sorsogon City and in Legazpi City.
A magnitude 3.5 aftershock also occured in the same area seven minutes later.

In an interview on ANC, Masbate Mayor Socrates Tuason said there were no reports of casualties, but the quake caused cracks in the walls of some buildings.
He added that authorities are still conducting further assessment.
