The award is given to the player who scored the most goals in the entire tournament which ran from March 8-19, 2012.
Phil made a total of six goals for the Philippines — 2 in their game against India and 1 against Tajikistan in the Group Stage, 1 during their Semi-finals match against Turkmenistan, and 2 during the Azkals’ Third Place Play-off against Palestine.
The closest contender for the award, North Korean striker Pak Nam-Chol, the Most Valuable Player of the tourney, only scored three.
Nam-Chol’s team gained its second championship title after defeating Turkmenistan in the Finals 2-1 on March 19.
At Monday’s awarding ceremony at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu, Phil received a golden shoe trophy while the rest of the Philippine team were bestowed with their respective medals.
