May 2012 Solar Eclipse (Ring of Fire) Time And Areas To View In Philippines

>
A solar eclipse will occur on Monday, May 21, 2012. The rare ‘Ring of Fire’ will be visible across China, most of Russia, Southeast Asia including the Philippines and Indonesia, Hawaii, Arctic regions and most of North America.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun as viewed from the Earth. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun, causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring), blocking most of the Sun’s light. An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over a region thousands of kilometers wide.

It can be viewed in Laoag, Tuguegarao, Baguio, Angeles City in Pampanga, Puerto Princesa, Lucena City, Legaspi City, Cebu, Zamboanga, Jolo, Sulu and Davao.

The following table provided by PAGASA shows the time of the sunrise as well as the maximum and end of the eclipse.
