NEW DELHI:
According to Times of India's News Report, the city celebrated its coldest Christmas in at least 10 years, with the minimum temperature on Sunday falling to 2.9 degrees Celsius, which is also the lowest recorded in December since 2001. Earlier records were not immediately available.
Gurgaon was freezing with the minimum dropping to 0.1 degrees Celsius while Pusa was the coldest spot in the capital at 1.1 degrees. Monday is expected to be more chilly with further drop in temperature predicted while the fog may make a comeback on Tuesday. The maximum on Sunday was recorded at 20.3 degrees.

The weatherman expects the maximum to remain unchanged on Monday, which is likely to be a clear day. The 2.9 degree-C minimum at Delhi's main station (Safdarjung) was five degrees below normal. On Saturday, it stood at 3.3 degrees Celsius.
The cold forced many families who had thought of a festive dinner outing on Sunday to change their plans and stay indoors.
"We planned to take the kids to India Gate and then head to Connaught Place for a Christmas dinner. But it was so cold by the evening, I didn't want to expose the children and we decided to stay home and order in,'' said Dwarka resident Rajnish Aggarwal.
Others who did venture out made sure they were adequately protected. "We put on layers of warm clothes and headed to the malls as we didn't want to spend Christmas at home, especially since it was also a Sunday. The malls were all decked up for Christmas and it was wonderful to be out,'' Vasant Kunj resident Shayna Wanchoo said.
The weatherman said this was the first time in at least a decade that the temperature had dipped below 3 degrees in December. Such low temperatures are usually seen in January. The last time the minimum temperature in December had slipped below 4 was in 2007, when it touched 3.9 degrees. In December last year, the lowest minimum was 5.2 deg C on the 22nd.
Before this, the minimum temperatures in December have fallen below 4 degrees C just twice in the past 10 years (in 2007 and 2005). In the last two years, the lowest minimum has been 5.2. The all-time record in December is 1.1 degrees C on December 26, 1945 and the highest maximum 29.3 deg C on the third of the month in 1987.
