MANILA, Philippines – A fraction of the 2.8 million Filipinos currently unemployed have reason to be hopeful, according to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.
There are currently more than 100,000 job vacancies locally on the government’s job portal, Phil-Job.Net, and Baldoz said it’s just matter of being equipped “with appropriate knowledge and skills so [the unemployed] will qualify for the available jobs.”

According to the site, the top job vacancies for this week include marketing officers, receptionists, telemarketers, messengers, mechanical engineers, executive secretary, call center agents, accounting staff, office clerks, human resource development assistants, general electricians, school librarians, elementary school teachers, production machine operators, purchasing managers, pastry cooks, and general pharmacists.
The surge in quantity of job postings on Phil-Job.Net comes after DOLE's campaign in the community level to encourage employers to use the facility to advertise their job vacancies.
Posts of employment opportunities on the government portal have since increased on a daily basis, reaching the current milestone of 102,902 job postings as of January 30, 2012.
"We continue to regularly disseminate this piece of labor market information for the benefit of applicants, including new graduates, in search of jobs and employers in search of qualified personnel or skills," Baldoz said.
The labor and employment chief noted, however, that despite easy access to these available information, job seekers should recognize the importance of proper job knowledge and a good awareness of their qualifications before aiming at prospective jobs.
"If job seekers feel the need for some training or acquire additional knowledge and skills, they should do so at once," she said.
