Syria Bans Filipino Domestic Workers

> Syria is imposing a ban on Filipino domestic helpers starting next month. ANC reports that the ban is apparently in response to the forced repatriation of Filipinos there.


The Syrian government has reportedly issued a decree on the ban which will take effect on April 1, 2012.

Only Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh nationals applying as maids will be allowed to enter Syria.

Instead of getting dismayed, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac reportedly said the ban has a positive effect on the Philippine government’s campaign against human trafficking in Syria.
