Storm Dumps 4 Feet of Hail in Texas

>
A rare weather phenomenon occured in parts of Texas Panhandle when a storm dumped hail that measured several inches, waist to shoulder high, an official from the National Weather Service said Friday.

NWS Meteorologist Justyn Jackson told The Christian Science Monitor that the hail was “real small” but there was a lot of it in a concentrated area, accumulating 2 to 4 feet deep.

Steve Kersh, a meteorologist for KVII TV in Amarillo said the weather event was unbelievable.

The pile of hail affected traffic flow at U.S. 287.

A CSMonitor source said some of the cars were buried in hail and people were trapped in their cars. Although there were no reported injuries, some vehicles and fences near the area were damaged.
