MANILA, Philippines – Yet another actress-politician could be joining the race for senator in the 2013 elections.
Leaders of the Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats on Friday said they are eyeing Alma Moreno-Salic as a possible senatorial bet in next year’s polls.
Lakas-CMD president and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla said Moreno (real name Vanessa Moreno Lacsamana) could be a strong candidate for the party.
Moreno is the current national president of the Philippine Councilors League. She is married to Mayor Sultan Fahad Salic of Marawi City.
Revilla said the fielding of Moreno is still being considered by Lakas. He said the party is considering adopting candidates from other parties while also supporting Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay in her campaign for senator.
Minority Leader Danilo Suarez earlier said Revilla’s wife, Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado Revilla, could also be fielded as a Lakas senatorial bet next year.
"One potential congressman si Lani Mercado. Hindi pa siya decided kung tatakbo siya. We’re trying to convince her,” he said.
