Carpio Acting Chief Justice (Philippines)

> As the most senior justice of the High Tribunal, and in accordance with law, Associate Justice Antonio Carpio now acts as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court until President Benigno Aquino III finds a replacement for impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Carpio has already called a special en banc session on Wednesday afternoon, May 30, 2012, after the SC officially received a copy of the guilty verdict on Corona.

Meanwhile, Atty. Gleoresty Guerra has temporarily taken the role of SC Spokesperson vice Court Administrator Midas Marquez while Carpio serves as CJ in an acting capacity.

“The position of Atty. Midas Marquez as court administrator is a permanent one so it’s not co-terminus as the term of Chief Justice Corona,” Guerra told reporters.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is expected to finish in 90 days the process for the selection of a new Chief Justice.
