June 4, 2012 Partial Lunar Eclipse

>
A partial lunar eclipse will occur and will be visible in the Philippines on June 4, 2012.

PAGASA said that the umbral eclipse magnitude will be 37.6% and will also be visible primarily in west parts of America, Pacific Ocean, Antarctica, eastern Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and neighboring islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The eclipse will begin at 4:46 PM Philippine Standard Time and will end at 9:19 PM (PST), the bureau said.
In Manila, the moon will rise at 6:17 P.M. on Monday and will set at 4:55 A.M. on Tuesday, June 5.

The major phases of the eclipse are as follows:
  • Penumbral eclipse begins 4:46 PM
  • Partial eclipse begins 6:59 PM
  • Greatest eclipse 7:03 PM
  • Partial eclipse ends 8:07 PM
  • Penumbral eclipse ends 9:19 PM
Observers need not use any kind of protective filters for the eyes since the lunar eclipse is safe to watch. A pair of binocular will help magnify the view and will make the red coloration of the Moon brighter, PAGASA added.
