Singapore companies eye Philippine fruit products

>
At least five Singaporean companies have expressed interest in the fruit products of the Philippines, such as Cavendish bananas, pineapples, and coconut sugar and water.

An export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the Singapore-based companies are NTUC Fairprice, Sheng Siong, Carrefour, and big supermarket and shopping centers Takashimaya and Mustafa.

Since the Philippines' participation to the Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) 2012 expo in Singapore last April 17 to 20, 761 inquiries were gathered by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), a sub-agency of the DTI. CITEM is still negotiating for the inquiries.

The FHA 2012 expo attracted 40,000 visitors from 91 countries, where most of the trade visitors came from airline, cruise, and rail food service; hotel, restaurant and catering; hospitality consulting and hotels; supermarkets and groceries; and industrial sectors.

MalacaƱang has been looking for alternative markets for bananas, since China has imposed stricter trade entry requirements in anticipation of the continuing conflict in the Panatag Shoal.
