Video: Jessica Sanchez Sings US National Anthem (Pacquiao vs Bradley)

> American Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez performed the US national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the main event of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas on June 9, 2012.

Some critics asked why Jessica wasn’t the one singing the Philippine national anthem. Her supporters answered that Pacquiao already assigned the singing of “Lupang Hinirang” to another singer long before Jessica came into the picture.

When several Twitter users commented that Jessica “isn’t proud to be Filipino,” her fans were quick to defend her, pointing out that “people should not deny her to be American” as she “grew up in the US and it’s only but good for her to pay tribute to the country that raised her.”

The Philippine National Anthem, meanwhile, was sung by 14-year-old Kirby Asunto who was personally handpicked by Pacquiao.
