JBC shortlist for Chief Justice is out, De Lima is out

> MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 2) - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has chosen eight names for its shortlist of nominees for the position of Chief Justice.

The list includes:

1. Carpio, Antonio T. – 7 votes
2. Abad, Roberto A. – 6 votes
3. Brion, Arturo D. – 6 votes
4. Jardeleza, Francis H. – 6 votes
5. Sereno, Maria Lourdes P.A. – 6 votes
6. Zamora, Ronaldo B. – 6 votes
7. Leonardo-De Castro, Teresita J. – 5 votes
8. Villanueva, Cesar L. – 5 votes

Those who did not make it to the shortlist were:

1. Bautista, Andres D. – 2 votes
2. Cagampang-De Castro, Soledad M. – 0 vote
3. De Lima, Leila M. – 0 vote
4. Diokno, Jose Manuel I. – 2 votes
5. Herbosa, Teresita J. – 4 votes
6. Legarda, Maria Carolina T. – 0 vote
7. Morales, Rafael A. – 0 vote
8. Pangalangan, Raul C. – 3 votes
9. Sarmiento, Rene V. – 0 vote
10. Siayngco, Manuel DJ. – 0 vote
11. Valdez, Amado D. – 0 vote
12. Velasco, Presbitero Jr. J. – 3 votes

The JBC also decided not to include Justice Secretary Leila de Lima in the shortlist of nominees for chief justice.

The shorlist will be submitted to President Benigno Aquino III who is expected to name the next Chief Justice not later than August 27.
