Bradley officially signs Pacquiao fight contract (Philippines)

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Timothy Bradley has formally accepted the offer to take on WBO welterweight king and fighting congressman Manny Pacquiao.

After initially agreeing “in principle” to fight Pacquiao, the American boxer finalized the agreement by signing the contract on Friday.

“It's official my manager has made my dreams come true and I have signed my contract to fight Manny Paquiao. It's time to get to work!” Bradley announced through Twitter.

Bradley, who is undefeated in 29 fights, said the Pacquiao fight would be his key to becoming the No. 1 fighter in the world.

"This is about being the number one fighter in the world, and that's what my goal has been for as long as I can remember," Bradley said in a separate report by the LA Times.

The fight is set to take place on June 9 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Bradley is reportedly going to make around US$5 million dollars for the bout.

Bradley emerged as one of the possible opponents of Pacquiao after it became clear that the much anticipated fight between the "Pacman" and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would no longer materialize.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, said he will train long and hard for his bout against Bradley.

He told The Philippine Star that he would would to go on a longer training period since his last fight was way back in November against Juan Manuel Marquez.

“I want eight to nine weeks,” he said.

“Medyo matagal pahinga kaya dapat mahaba ang training (I've had a long rest so I should go on longer training),” said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao typical trains 6 to 7 weeks for a fight.

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum dared Floyd Mayweather Jr. to take the Manny Pacquiao fight by accepting a fixed guarantee minus the pay-per-view income.

This was the Top Rank Inc. CEO’s response to Mayweather’s $40-million guarantee offer to Pacquiao.
“I am offering Mayweather $45 million under the same terms he offered Pacquiao,” Arum told Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

Pacquiao revealed that the unbeaten American boxer made the offer when they talked over the phone two weeks ago.

Mayweather reportedly said Pacquiao could get a $40-million guarantee minus all the other income to be generated by their fight.

Nathanielsz speculated that the super fight, seen by many as the most lucrative bout in the history of the sport, could earn an additional $150 million aside from Mayweather’s $40-million guarantee.

Pacquiao rejected Mayweather’s offer and insisted a 50-50 split instead.

“Kaya hindi matuluy-tuloy kasi minsan agree na siya sa 50-50 tapos ayaw na naman niya, iba na naman kundisyon niya (The fight couldn’t push through because at one time he agreed on a 50-50 split only to change his mind),” said the Filipino champion in an interview with ABS-CBN correspondent Jay Dayupay.

Pacquiao said he deserves an equal share because he draws a lot of viewers in pay-per-view.
In his last two fights, Pacquiao generated better pay-per-view sales than Mayweather.

His 12-round battle against Juan Manuel Marquez garnered 1.4 million pay-per-view buys in November 2011, while his bout against Shane Mosley in May 2011 generated 1.3 million.

Meanwhile, Mayweather's fight against Victor Ortiz last September generated 1.25 million in pay-per-view sales.

MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will choose to fight Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez anew, according to Marquez's trainer, Nacho Beristain.

This, after the third bout between the two boxers last November 2011 ended in another controversial decision in Pacquiao's favor.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Beristain said Pacquiao will want to fight Marquez for a fourth time when he makes his return to the ring sometime in June.
"Pacquiao is obsessed with beating Juan," Beristain said.
Aside from Marquez, Pacquiao and his team are also considering bouts against undefeated American Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto.

Beristain said Pacquiao showed his desperation in the last fight with Marquez. "At times, he was attacking Juan with everything, but he couldn't knock him out," he said.

Marquez was impressive in his last fight against Pacquiao, again frustrating the Filipino boxer with his excellent counterpunching. Still, Beristain said they can improve on some aspects of Marquez's game, which will lead to an even more impressive performance.

"I thought Juan Manuel was a little slow, but he was very strong. He will work on that aspect. With more explosive speed, I'm sure Juan would have taken Pacquiao down," he said.

A fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, however, faces numerous stumbling blocks.

Marquez refuses to fight in Las Vegas, as he believes he will not get a fair decision should the bout once again goes to the scorecards. Pacquiao, meanwhile, is asking for a guaranteed $28-million purse.

According to ABS-CBN News Report, boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao defended himself from critics who lambasted him for buying a P25-million yacht.

He sought understanding from the public amid the ongoing relief drive for survivors of tropical storm Sendong in Mindanao and parts of the Visayas.

“Nagpadala naman tayo nang tulong sa Cagayan [de Oro] (We sent help to Cagayan de Oro),” he told ABS-CBN correspondent Jay Dayupay.

Pacquiao clarified that he bought the Italian yacht before Sendong struck southern Philippines last week.

The 8-division champion visited Cagayan de Oro on Friday to personally hand out relief goods to Sendong victims.

“Nagpunta tayo ng Cagayan de Oro para tumulong at magbigay sa kanila ng inspirasyon (We went to Cagayan de Oro to extend help and provide inspiration),” he said.

The boxing champion was hit by some netizens for allegedly being "insensitive" for buying expensive items at a time when thousands of people are suffering due to the damages caused by Sendong.

Pacquiao said he sees nothing wrong in buying a boat for his family.

The money used for the yacht came from his earnings as a boxer and businessman, he said.

“Pera ko naman ‘yon, hindi ko naman ninakaw ‘yon at pinagpawisan ko ‘yon, sana maintindihan nila (I used my own money, I did not steal and I worked for it. I hope they understand),” he said.

Pacquiao also decided to cancel his family’s planned Christmas vacation trip to the US.

He said they will spend Christmas in General Santos City instead.

According to ABS-CBN News Report, boxing superstar and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao is getting hit for purchasing a P25-million Italian-made yacht while thousands are suffering due to damages caused by tropical storm Sendong.

Pacquiao’s decision to buy a multi-million peso boat didn’t sit well with some of his countrymen in light of a major disaster affecting the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

'Better than corrupt politicians' 

Pacquiao, however, joined his colleagues in the House of Representatives in their efforts to help the survivors of Sendong.

Pacquiao also sent in his staff to the badly-hit areas of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.

"Kinausap ko ang mga staff ko ngayon, magpadala ng relief goods para makatulong sa ating mga kababayan doon," Pacquiao said.
