Lyceum of the Philippines University - Batangas (formerly Lyceum of Batangas) was founded by Dr. Sotero H. Laurel in 1966 using the educational philosophy of his father, former President Jose P. Laurel. It is located in the Capitol Site, Batangas City (Philippines). Its flagship courses were Nursing, Medical Technology, Marine Engineering, and Customs Administration. Now, Lyceum of the Philippines University has over 42 degree & non-degree programs to offer. The school employs over 500 teaching and non-teaching personnel to cater to the needs of its almost 10,000 student population.
Phoenix (without fear, without favor) has recently released the school newspaper of LPU-Batangas for the month of September-November 2011. The main headline of the newspaper is all about the celebration of Lyceum of the Philippines University's 45th foundation anniversary or LPU turns sapphire. Also, the newspaper contains a picture about students from various colleges call on others to join celebrations for 45th milestone of university.
Moreover, it has said that LPU turns sapphire because the Greek mythology claims that Sapphire represents prophetic wisdom, loyalty and purity of purpose and deeds. As Lyceum of the Philippines (LPU) celebrates its 45th year, it tells the same story.
In addition, with goal set by its founder, late Senator Sotero "Teroy" H. Laurel (SHL), to provide quality education to Batangueno (locals of Batangas province) youth, LPU has remained strong throughout its years of existence to become a center of academic excellence in Southern Tagalog. After four decades and five years of pursuing educational bequest, the university set to rejoice and hail the legacy of its founder in celebration of the Grand Sapphire Anniversary. Various activities were organized to pay homage to the founder. Some of them were festive, honoring founder, Educational pride and etc.
