Bayo Cancels “What’s Your Mix?” Ads

>
After drawing flak from netizens in social networking sites, blogs and other online fora, Bayo decided to scrap its “What’s Your Mix?” advertising campaign that featured photos with taglines like “50% Australian and 50% Filipino.”

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Bayo’s vice president for product research and development Lyn Agustin revealed that they are going to replace the mixed-race ads with a “better and more sensitive campaign.”
Agustin also apologized on behalf of the company, saying “sorry that the campaign unintentionally offended people,” according to the report.

Bayo’s “What’s Your Mix?” ads displayed in its boutiques all over the country “will be taken down,” she reportedly said.

The ads were criticized for being “insensitive” and “demeaning,” with some users of social networking sites questioning how the ad agency came up with the heritage percentage.
