Earthquake rocks Luzon including Metro Manila (June 17, 2012)

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred off the coast of Candelaria, Zambales on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 06:18 AM local time with the epicenter approximately 52km SW of Candelaria, Zambales. The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 12km.


According to the Philippine Institue of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Intensity III was felt in Quezon City, and Intensity IV in Makati City.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Meanwhile, The US Geological Survey has the quake at magnitude 6.1.
PHIVOLCS said aftershocks are expected but no expecting damage will occur.

Renato Solidum of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology says the Sunday-morning quake was not strong enough to generate a tsunami alert.
