Teen Blackmails Fellow Schoolmate with a Nude Photo

> MANILA, Philippines – A 15-year-old high school student, who allegedly asked to be paid P15,000 in exchange for not posting nude photos of his classmate online, has been arrested by authorities in an entrapment operation.

According to "Robert" (not his real name), he became chatmates with the suspect, who used the alias "Yuri Kimberly," through social networking site Facebook. Robert said that in one of their conversations, Kimberly asked him to send a nude photograph of himself and he obliged.

However, after he sent the photo, Robert said Kimberly began blackmailing him by saying the photos would spread online if he was not paid P15,000. "Hindi ako makatulog tapos laging pinagpapawisan. Baka ikalat niya kasi ang pictures. Kasi may deadline siya hanggang Sunday," said Robert.

Robert sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), who later found out that Kimberly is actually a schoolmate of Robert. "'Yung suspect demanded the money to be placed in certain portions of the school. Because of this, we had a suspicion that the subject must really be connected or a student of the school," said Palmer Mallari, chief of NBI’s Technical Investigation Division.

In the entrapment operation, an NBI surveillance video caught the suspect collecting the P15,000 from a notebook left by Robert. The suspect, a fellow high school student, admitted that he posed as Yuri Kimberly online. He is now facing charges of extortion and child abuse.

The NBI continues to advise parents to monitor their children's online activity to prevent cases of cyber-bullying and extortion online.
