According to film director Behn Cervantes, Gomez did not wake up from an afternoon sleep at her residence in Quezon City. Her son found out that she had died when he tried to wake her up at around 2pm, Cervantes told the media.
ABS-CBN News reported that Gomez was once married to folk singer Heber Bartolome, with whom she had two children.
She became a political and economic reforms and women’s rights advocate after the 1986 EDSA revolution.
She co-chaired Makabayan, a coalition of several militant left organizations in the Philippines.
