Is November 4, 2013 a holiday in the Philippines?

The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) will enjoy a very long weekend as the region celebrates the Islamic New Year or Amun Jadid. The 2013 Islamic New Year falls on Muharram 1, 1435 Hijra which corresponds to November 4, 2013.

Under Presidential Decree (P.D.) No. 1083, otherwise known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines, Amun Jadid shall be officially observed in the Provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, and in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga and in such other Muslim provinces and cities as may be created.

All Muslim government officials and employees in places other than those enumerated shall also be excused from reporting to office in order that they may be able to observe Muslim Holidays.
