Coke and Pepsi recipe 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) is carcinogenic?

>
According to one study, the common recipe of Coke and Pepsi which is 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) was linked with cancer in mice and rats. However, a study if it poses cancer to human has not been published.

Further studies should be made and published to validate this claim. Nonetheless, California has recently listed 4-MEI as a carcinogen, obliging this soda manufacturers to place a cancer warning label on their bottles.

This claim will obviously drop the sales of Coca-cola and Pepsi, which comprises 90% of the fizzy drink market in US alone. Both companies have changed the recipes for their drinks to avoid being legally obliged to put a cancer warning label on the bottle. The change of recipes has already been rolled out in California.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims a person would need to drink more than 1,000 cans of Coke or Pepsi a day to take in the same dose of the chemical that was given to the animals in the lab test.
