Datawind to sell 15 million Aakash tablet this year (India)

According to Report of Zee News, UK-based Datawind, developer of Aakash tablet,  likely to sell 15 million devices to individual, corporate buyers and HRD ministry this year in India.

The company has already bagged orders from the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) to supply the low-cost tablet PC and expects, ministry to buy around 10 million devices this year from various players.

The company also plans to retail the product in other countries like Egypt, Thailand, Panama, Sri Lanka and Brazil.

The low-cost Android tablet comes with a price of Rs. 2,499 along with Rs. 199 shipping charges for online booking although there are reports that the customers might also be given the option for cash on delivery.

The seven-inch touch screen tablet flaunts of features such as 256 megabytes of RAM, ARM 11 processor with the Android 2.2 operating system, two USB ports and HD-quality video.

The current version of Aakash has a battery life of about 1.5 hours.
