Police report said Libaton attended a fiesta celebration in Barangay Ompao, Tarragona and was on his way home on a motorcycle with co-worker Eldon Cruz—the driver— when he was shot by three motorcyle-riding men.

Investigation finding reveals that the gunmen initially fired shots in the air that prompted Cruz to slowdown and make a U-turn. Libaton reportedly disembarked from the motorcycle to confront the gunmen, but they shot him repeatedly.
According to reports, Libaton died while being brought to the hospital.
