> The beach is among the top destinations of Filipinos and tourists during summer in the Philippines.  We are lucky enough that we got the best beaches to offer.   With more than 7,000 islands to choose from,  travel website CNN Go has picked 10 of the best beaches and islands in the Philippines.

1. El Nido, Palawan: The website cited its majestic karst limestone formations, empty lagoons, marble cliffs, prehistoric caves and waterfalls as magnet to tourists.

2. Boracay, Aklan: Its popular white sand has made it as favorite summer destination of Filipinos and foreign visitors. Last March 2012, the island was ranked by another popular travel website Tripadvisor.com as the best beach in Asia for 2012.

CNN Go pointed out its small and calmer resorts which still offer secluded strips of sand, coves, caves and cliffs.

3. Palaui Island, Cagayan Valley: We were unfamiliar of this island, probably because it is isolated and still unexplored. This is the reason why up to now, it retained its natural beauty. The website cited its “glorious white sands surrounded by volcanic rocks on one side kiss blue-green waters on the other.” Its coral gardens and rich marine reserve make snorkeling and diving more exciting.

4. Panglao, Bohol:  The white sand also attracts tourists but its diverse menu of aquatic attractions, such as dolphin watching, whale spotting, diving with barracudas, jackfish, sea snakes and brilliant coral formations, is the reason why it made it to the list. Added to that, a trip to the famous Chocolate Hills will complete your visit to the island.

5. Bantayan Island, Cebu: It has remained relatively untouched by modern life. The island’s white sands, aqua-colored waters and red-gold sunsets have made this a favorite destination especially those who seek refuge from the busy city life.

6. Caramoan, Camarines Sur: It has become one of the best diving sites in the Philippines. Because of its huge boulders and rock formations, scuba divers, island hoppers and beach bums all converge here. The island will bring you an exciting adventure because of its caves, waterfalls, freshwater pools, underground streams and lagoons.

7. Samal, Davao: The vast Coral Garden Marine Park, a fish sanctuary filled with diverse marine life, makes Sambal a favorite among divers and snorkelers.

8. Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte: Aside from its tall waves, which make it one of the best surfing sites in the Philippines, the island also has pristine beaches with milder waves, perfect for sunning and swimming.

9. Great Santa Cruz Island, Zamboanga: It’s probably unique because of its stretch of pulverized red coral washed up from the sea floor mixes with white sand to produce a pink-hued beach.

10. Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte: According to the website, its “quiet, sleepy and rural community with little traces of commercialism” makes the destination ideal for those who enjoy mixing solitude with sun, sand and surf.
